Funny Departmental Cartoons

Departments don’t just divide work — they divide reality. Sales lives in targets and urgency, marketing in narratives and positioning, finance in controls and caution, legal in risk avoidance, customer support in fallout, and supply chain in constraints no one else wants to see.

These funny departmental cartoons capture how each function experiences the same organisation very differently. They explore the friction between speed and process, ambition and compliance, urgency and approval — and the quiet comedy that emerges when departments talk past each other while assuming they’re aligned.

If you’ve ever wondered how the same company can feel like multiple workplaces depending on where you sit, these cartoons will feel uncomfortably accurate.

Why Departmental Cartoons Feel So Familiar

Departments often appear misaligned not because people are careless, but because incentives, measurements, and risks differ across functions. What feels urgent to one team can feel reckless or unnecessary to another.

These cartoons work because they surface those invisible differences. By focusing on systems rather than individuals, they capture how well-intentioned teams can end up talking past each other — and why coordination across departments is harder than org charts make it look.

The humour lands because the situations are recognisable, not exaggerated.

About These Departmental Cartoons

These departmental cartoons are created by Ravindra Potharaju, drawing on firsthand experience of working across multiple functions inside organisations.

While heading operations and later leading a business unit for learning services, he worked closely with sales, marketing, finance, legal, customer support, and delivery teams — often acting as the bridge between departments with competing priorities. His background includes direct sales as well as channel sales roles, giving him visibility into how targets, incentives, and pressures differ across functions.

Rather than targeting individuals or teams, the cartoons focus on organisational patterns — how incentives vary, how decisions travel across departments, and how reasonable choices within one function can create friction elsewhere. They are meant to recognise work life as it is experienced across departments, not ridicule it.

Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t see the latest departmental cartoons here. Where do I find them?

This page is not meant to show the latest cartoons. To see new cartoons, click on the department you’re interested in — such as Sales, Marketing, or Finance. Each department page shows the newest cartoons first, along with older cartoons related to that team.

Some cartoons seem to fit more than one department. How do you decide where they go?

Many workplace situations involve more than one department. Each cartoon is placed under the department that best represents the main issue being shown — for example, targets for sales, approvals for finance, or risk and compliance for legal.

Are these cartoons based on real companies or real people?

No. The cartoons are not about any specific company or person. They are based on situations that repeat across many workplaces, which is why they often feel familiar.

Are these cartoons meant to put down or disrespect any department?

No. These cartoons are not meant to disparage or undermine any department or role. Every function plays an important role in how organisations work. The humour comes from everyday work situations and differing priorities — not from mocking the people doing the work.
