When “Career Catalysts” Become Survival Tests

Black-and-white cartoon of a burnt-out employee in a chaotic office while HR observers watch through a window, with the caption about surviving to get promoted or becoming a resilience case study.

Some roles are advertised as “career catalysts” … which usually means nobody else wants to do them.

You walk in thinking it’ll accelerate your growth — and by Day 3, you’re just trying to accelerate your exit. Survive the chaos, and you’re celebrated as “high potential.” Burn out in the process, and HR calls it… resilience.

Corporate logic is funny that way — if you somehow make it out alive, you’re a star. If not, they turn your collapse into a leadership lesson.

Ever had a job that was sold as a growth opportunity but felt more like a survival experiment? Share your story — I’d love to hear it.
