A corporate cartoon about leadership performance reviews showing a CEO who feels threatened by a senior executive who thinks like him.

The Scenario: In this insecure leadership appraisal cartoon, we step into the ivory tower where competence is a double-edged sword.

A senior executive is being reviewed by a CEO who recognizes a perfect mirror image of his own thinking and drive. Instead of celebrating this alignment as the ultimate succession win, the leader recoils; the punchline reveals that the executive’s similarity is exactly why they’ve become a liability rather than an asset.

The Observation: This narrative explores the "Insecurity Filter" that often quietly dominates senior-level appraisals, moving the focus from organizational impact to personal ego-preservation.

When a successor performs too well—essentially becoming a "clone" of their mentor—they stop being seen as a protégé and start being viewed as a competitor.

At Kaapi with Ravi, we observe that the most dangerous place to be in a leadership review isn't being "unlike" the boss, but being so exactly like them that you remind them they are replaceable.

The only thing a visionary leader fears more than an incompetent successor is a perfectly competent one who reminds them that they are no longer unique.
